Best and Worst Red Carpet Looks of 2014

These are some of my highlights of the red carpet so far. This year has seen some of the best, most inspired dresses go down the red carpet and I'm sure the rest of the year will continue to impress. Of course there were those that didn't impress me (at all!) but allowed for great discussions. There has to be a balance to keep the fashion world interesting and from overwhelming us after all.

All events so far this year will be covered, so no one is safe! (evil laugh) These are just a few of the looks I've loved and hated. There are plenty more.

Okay, let's get to it.

The first look (and my favourite look so far this year) was seen at the Golden Globes on Kate Beckinsale:

She looked absolutely amazing! She wore a Zuhair Murad gown that did nothing but flatter her body. It looked like it was made for her. She accessorised with big diamond stud earrings and a cute black clutch purse, neither of which took the attention away from her show-stopping dress.

I am in awe of her! The fit of the dress is just perfection. As far as I am concerned, this is the best look of the year so far. She nailed it!

The second look I loved was seen at the Cannes Film Festival by Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds:

They looked perfectly co-ordinated in matching black and white Gucci outfits, which you can never go wrong with. Blake accessorised with a matching diamond bracelet, necklace and earrings set. The jewellery added a soft but glamorous touch to her look.

They're so beautiful together!

The next look was seen at the Golden Globes by another cute couple, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum:

Another beautiful and strong look that I won't be forgetting quickly. Jenna kept things simple with a black clutch and long dangle earrings. Her Roberto Cavilli dress looked perfect on her, proving her body looks as great as ever. Channing wore a neat Gucci suit and also kept his look simple. They really do look incredible.

Stealing the attention at the Oscars was Sandra Bullock, Lady Gaga, Lupita Nyongo and Kate Hudson:

Sandra Bullock looked stunning in her Alexander Mcqueen dress. Fit for a queen, she looked like royalty, simple and classy. Lady Gaga also looked amazing in her metallic Atelier Versace dress. Toned down but still making a statement, she showed us a look we'll remember for a good reason.

As always, Lupita Nyongo stole the majority of the attention. She looked beautiful in her bespoke Prada gown. Compared to Cinderella throughout the night, this princess definitely had people asking her name. The sea blue dress complemented her skin beautifully.

Kate Hudson looked absolutely beautiful in her white Versace gown. The deep V cut was extremely flattering on her and the back was just perfect. She accessorised it beautifully as well.

The Oscars has been the winner so far for me. There has been stunning dress after stunning dress.

Here are a few of the other amazing looks:

Ciara at the Grammys, wearing Emilio Pucci. Her radiance and beauty shined through:

Alyssa Campanella at the People's Choice Awards. She looked like a goddess:

Emma Stone at The Amazing Spider-man 2 Premiere, wearing Atelier Versace. She just makes me smile, yellow is definitely her colour:

Zoë Saldana at the Golden Globes, wearing Prabal Gurung. The dress complemented her athletic and shapely body, she looked absolutely stunning:

Taylor Swift at the Academy of Country Music awards, wearing J.Mendel. I love that she went with a crop top, her look was playful yet sophisticated at the same time. She looked incredible:

Nicole Kidman at the Cannes Film Festival, wearing Armani. She looked like royalty for sure:

Kesha at the Billboard Music Awards, wearing Ines Di Santos. She's never looked better:

Kendall Jenner at the Met Gala, wearing (you'd never believe it) Topshop! This high street dress easily battles with the top designer dresses. She looked beautiful:

Not all of the looks on the red carpet made me gasp for a good reason. The first look that is unforgettable (for all the wrong reasons) was seen at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards by Rihanna:

I love Rihanna and she has had some great looks on the red carpet, but this look was just so wrong. Very little is left to the imagination. Honestly she may as well be naked. This look is not the classy look I would have hoped for. I have noticed how much she has inspired other celebrities to wear similar things, only earlier I saw Kim Kardashian wearing a see through top.

She has accessorised well though and her makeup goes perfectly with (what can just about be described as) her dress. She has the confidence to pull the look off but she really should've worn a slip dress underneath or something.

The next look was seen at the pre-Grammy event by Joanna Krupa:

She wore Michael Costello and also left little to the imagination but accessorised well. Her hair and makeup was pretty, but the dress was way more revealing than necessary.

You may be seeing a pattern emerging here, I don't like the dresses that reveal too much flesh or cleavage. However, the next look was not one that showed too much, it just shouldn't have ever been worn. Here is Jessie J at the Brit Awards:

The jumpsuit isn't the worst thing I've seen but the BLUE lipstick has left me with only one question. Why?! She has gone with the gold/nude theme, matching her heels and clutch with the soft shade of her jumpsuit, so why the death blue lips? She owned the look but I cannot get past the bold but odd choice of lip colour.

Here are some of the other looks I wasn't so keen on:

Audrey Tautou at the Cannes Film Festival, wearing Prada. I like that she went with vintage but this dress is not to my liking at all. She still looked pretty though (of course):

Katie Holmes at the Met Gala, wearing Marchesa. It's a mess, sorry Katie. The fabric is bad, it looks very princessy/prommy, dare I go on:

Solange Knowles also at the Met Gala, wearing a custom made 3.1 Phillip Lim dress. She looked beautiful but the dress just swallowed her. I hate the fit. This isn't one of the worst at all, I just really wanted to include this:

Maggie Gyllenhaal at the Met Gala, wearing Valentino. All I'm going to say is this dress is best kept at the back of the closet:

Amber Rose at the Billboard Music Awards. This look is just depressing. I feel sad looking at it. She should've shown off her smoking body or at least smiled! The oversized glasses are pretty cool though:

Thank you for reading. Please do comment and let me know what you think of the looks we've seen so far this year :)
