Gem Of The Month

Who shines bright like a diamond? Trick question, we all do. We're all special and we need to know that. However, some people don't realise just how good they are and (although I'm sure they won't see this) I want to give them a shout out. I'm starting this new monthly post to celebrate the success of someone famous (or semi-famous). So without further ado, the gem of this month is...

Christophe Lemaitre (of course)

There was no one else I could even think about giving this title to. After his impressive performance at the European Athletics Championships 2014 he earned this. It's not because he's absolutely beautiful, he works so hard!

He was the reigning champion of both the 100m and 200m but (like most other champions) had to admit defeat. He lost the 100m to James Dasaolu, with Harry Aikines-Aryeetey bagging himself the bronze, both British competitors. Christophe ended with an impressive time and earned himself the silver medal, which is definitely something to be proud of. Fellow Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut had to pull out of the final, but the rest of the line up included most of the top European sprinters.

The 200m was a very anticipated race. It was hard to call who was going to win between Christophe and Adam Gemili. They're both amazing athletes, able to compete on a worldwide level. So what happened? Adam took home the gold with a new Personal Best and Christophe got the silver. Amazing times as predicted and definitely a race to be proud of!

If that wasn't enough for Christophe he came back again for the 4x100m relay. He must have been so tired! Never the less, he still ran a great race and helped his team win the bronze medal.

So after 6 days in Zurich, Christophe managed to bag himself 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. 3 medal ceremonies, not bad. If that's not smile-worthy I don't know what is!

Keep posted for a full breakdown of the European Athletics Championships 2014 tomorrow. I miss it already :(

Shanice x
