New Student Job!!

Hello :)

If you've seen any of my past posts about finding a job, you'll know I was struggling to get a job. You send what feels like a hundred applications with maybe one or two interviews so you get extremely excited, but after the interviews you get the rejection you dreaded. Sound familiar? I'm sure everyone has faced this at some point, whether jobs or something else. Big smiles though, I am officially employed! And it's a job I actually enjoy!

Around six weeks ago I was hired as one of the new Student Ambassadors at university. I get to represent the university at events around the UK. Trust me when I say this is the most varied job role ever, I get to do everything! It is a zero hour contract but so far I've had a lot of work. Either way, I will never complain when I finally have a job which is not in sales.

For those wanting a little extra income. Have you considered becoming an extra? Or joining an agency? Zero hour contracts could lead to a great job and amazing experience. I got to work at the Glamour Awards when I was waitressing on agency (and saw James Bay!!! And other less interesting people) and I recently danced on X Factor, hired as an extra. Doing these things on zero hour contracts saved me from going crazy job-searching or getting depressed.

If you're looking for a job good luck! I have hope you'll find something good soon.

  1. Hello, I can completely relate on the topic of looking for a job. I am a great worker once I have a job but looking for a job is one of the most frustrating and nerve racking, stressful things to do. I fill out countless applications and sit and wait for what seems like forever. Then when you finally do get ahold of somebody and get an interview. The interview is always stressful because of not really knowing the questions that will be asked and also always have doubts about how I did for a couple days after. I love having a job I hate looking for one.

    1. Hello, yeah it's terrible how hard it is to get a job. It's even hard to get a waitressing job in somewhere like Garfunkels now cos everywhere wants at least 1 year's experience (not that I want a waitressing job anymore). I really hope you find a job soon, and one you really like.

I used to get a lot of interview practice so I'll publish the things that have helped me, like Q&As and videos. The problem is that sometimes employers don't go for how well someone did in the interview or how good their CV is, it's based on other things. So I'd say the best thing to do is to not let the job search get you down. You know you're a great worker and anything you do you'll ace. Keep the passion and stay optimistic, good things will happen soon :)
