A Year Of Music In 2016
Hello :)
We're nearly at the end of 2016! Where has the time gone? Wow. How has the year been for you so far? Did you do any of your new year resolutions? Most people, including me, set at least one goal they feel serious about but get bored or just forget about it. I don't remember what my goal was for this year, but I'm going to set one for next year and make sure I stick to it (although I'm sure I say that every year). I have been forcing myself into fitness a lot this year so I am going to continue until it becomes a habit. My new years resolution will be to exercise regularly. I use fitness apps to do short workouts already so that is going to be a big part of my daily routine. I already eat pretty well, excluding the often takeaways, so I won't change that. I am going to wake up earlier as well. I woke up at 12:30pm today! Sleeping long is a great way to stay slim though.
It's been a good year for me. I feel like all I did was work and procrastinate with university but I made a lot of new friends and I'm happy. My biggest goal in life is to happy so I'm winning! I'm planning on doing more travelling next year. Barbados, Paris and possibly Dubai. It's going to be an expensive but fabulous 2017.
So onto the music of 2016. So many artists have just resorted to remixing and sampling old songs instead of writing their own. Although some of these throwbacks are great and sound good brought into 2016, it's a bit of a cop out. I like originality and the lyrics are more important than ever. So who's been killing it this year? There are newbies on the scene such as Anne-Marie, Zara Larsson and Shawn Mendez who've had massive hits. Shawn Mendez isn't actually that new onto the scene as his hit Stiches was released last year, but he really hit the mark this year and got the recognition he deserves. There are so many new DJs as well spinning hit after hit. All I will say is keep the party coming! Then there are the oldies on the scene, those who have been going from strength to strength. Drake, Rihanna and Beyonce have dominated the majority of the attention this year. They have shown that all it really takes for them to have a hit is to surprise people with a new song. It helps that the songs are annoyingly catchy! Rihanna has been incredible this year and all of her live performances have shown how far her singing has come. Here's an impressive live medley performed at the MTV VMAs:
There are loads of artists who have had a great year, but my favourite of 2016 has to be Ariana Grande! First Dangerous Woman, then Into You, then Side to Side! Damn, that's an unbeatable triple hit release! Her album is the best of the year as well. She could sing the alphabet and it would be an incredible song. Here's a song from her album called Be Alright:
Another artist that has really impressed me this year is The Weeknd. Last year was an amazing year for him and this year did not disappoint. Starboy is one of my favourite songs right now. The funny thing is, me and my dad was convinced he wasn't singing in English until recently. I put on a lyric video and saw the words actually did fit in. What d'you know? I love how he's come to life since Starboy. He's looking hot since cutting his hair as well. Check out this live performace on The Ellen Degenerous Show:
A newbie who looks set to blow up in 2017 is JP Cooper. He lended his angelic vocals to the amazing dance hit Perfect Strangers (favourite dance song ever) and now has his own song September Song. I cannot wait to hear his other songs, I have high expectations. Here is September Song:
Remember Craig David? He was hot on the scene in the early noughties but then seemed to have disappeared. Well all of his fans had a while to wait but he returned and is better than ever! Working as a DJ, he quickly became famous again. Hit after hit, this year has been unstoppable for him. I love his duet with Blonde, so here's Nothing Like This:
I can't possibly complete this post without mentioning Fifth Harmony. I wasn't a fan of them until this year but their songs are hard to get away from and have a tendency to stay in my head for hours. They are such great feel-good songs. They also won Last Fan Standing, showing they have the biggest, most supportive fan group in the UK. You can't fault that. They won me over when they sang a song with Fetty Wap, so here's their winning song All In My Head (Flex):
Random time. This is one of my favourite songs right now, so enjoy a little karaoke with me!
I hope you enjoyed reading about the music that has had an impact in 2016. I can't wait to see who will be dominating in 2017.
